An event valet service in the US typically costs $25 to $50 an hour per attendant, with a 3 to 4 hour minimum. Two attendants and a stand lead for a four hour house party come to about $340 to $640 before tips. Plan one attendant per 25 to 30 cars, never fewer than two, and add a shuttle when cars park off site.

That is the short answer. This page is for the person who will sign the quote: a host with a 120 guest birthday on a street with no parking, a couple whose venue lot is a five minute walk from the barn, an office manager booking the arrival for a client dinner at a private estate. It covers what each line on a valet quote costs, worked examples for common events, how many attendants you need, tips, permits and insurance, and how to book the crew yourself.

Valet service cost per hour

Valet companies price private events per attendant, per hour, with a minimum booking. The rate moves with the city, the date, the distance to the parking area and how much notice you give. These are typical US ranges for 2026, before tips, permits and holiday surcharges.

Line itemTypical priceWhat it usually covers
Valet attendant$25 to $50 per hourGreeting guests, parking and returning cars, ticketing
Valet captain or stand lead$35 to $60 per hourKey control, the radio, the host contact, damage walk arounds
Minimum booking3 to 4 hours per attendantEven for a two hour cocktail party
Shuttle van and driver$75 to $150 per hourMoving guests from a remote lot to the door
Permit, cones, signage and podiumOften $50 to $250 flatCurb permit filing, key cabinet, lighting at the stand

The gap between what an attendant earns and what you pay is the company. A valet attendant takes home somewhere around $15 to $20 an hour in most US metros, and the operator adds payroll taxes, workers compensation, garage keepers insurance, scheduling, equipment and its margin. That cost is real. The insurance in particular is the reason most hosts should book an operator rather than a friend who can drive.

How much does valet cost for a party, a wedding or a company event?

Most private events need two to four attendants for four to six hours, which puts the total between about $200 and $1,500 before tips. Here is how that works out for common bookings, using mid range rates and the usual minimums.

EventTypical crewEstimated cost
House party, 60 guests, about 25 cars, parking on the street nearby2 attendants, 4 hours$200 to $400
Birthday or anniversary, 120 guests, about 50 cars, lot next door2 attendants and a lead, 5 hours$425 to $800
Wedding, 150 guests, about 65 cars, venue lot 4 minutes away3 attendants and a lead, 6 hours$660 to $1,260
Company dinner at a private estate, 200 guests, about 90 cars4 attendants and a lead, 5 hours$675 to $1,300
Holiday party with a remote lot and shuttle3 attendants, 1 shuttle, 5 hours$750 to $1,500

Saturday nights in December, New Year's Eve and the busy wedding months of June, September and October book first and often carry a higher rate. A weekday company event in March is usually the cheapest booking you can make.

How many valet attendants do I need for an event?

Plan one attendant per 25 to 30 cars and at least two for any event, so one can park while the other greets the next car. Work from cars, not guests: divide the guest count by two for couples and family events, or by about 1.5 for a company event where people drive alone.

Then adjust for the run. The ratio above assumes the parking area is two or three minutes away on foot. Every extra minute of round trip slows the line, because an attendant who is jogging back from the lot is not taking keys. If the lot is five minutes away, add one attendant. If it is a drive away, a shuttle for guests and a smaller crew at the door is often cheaper than more attendants. Add a lead at the stand once you pass about 60 cars, so one person owns the key cabinet and the radio.

The arrival window matters as much as the headcount. A wedding where 150 guests arrive in the 20 minutes before the ceremony needs a bigger crew than a party where the same guests drift in over two hours. Say which kind of night it is in the quote request.

What pushes a valet quote up

  • Distance to the parking area. The single biggest driver. Remote lots mean more attendants or a shuttle.
  • A tight arrival window. Ceremonies and seated dinners with a fixed start time need extra hands for the first 45 minutes.
  • Curb use. A stand on a public street may need a city permit, cones and signage, and some cities license valet operators.
  • Short notice. Booking inside two weeks on a Saturday in peak season usually costs more, if the crew is free at all.
  • Hills, gravel and gates. A steep driveway, an unlit lot or a gate code that changes adds time per car.
  • Late finishes. Most quotes run from the first arrival to the last car returned. A party that ends at 1 am bills to 1:30.

Do you tip valet attendants at a private party?

Yes. At a private event the host usually covers the tip, either 15 to 20 percent of the valet bill or a flat $20 to $40 per attendant, and a small sign at the stand tells guests the valet is taken care of. The other option is to let guests tip on pick up, which costs the host nothing but leaves some guests digging for cash in the dark.

Whichever you choose, put it in the booking. Valet operators price differently when tips are allowed, and a crew that expects guest tips on a no tip night is a bad start to the evening.

Insurance and permits for valet parking

When a guest hands over the keys, damage to that car is covered by the valet operator's garage keepers liability policy. A general liability policy alone usually does not cover cars in the operator's care, and your homeowners policy usually does not either. So ask every provider three questions before you book: do you carry garage keepers liability, can you send a certificate of insurance, and can you name the host or the venue as additional insured if the venue requires it.

Permits depend on the city. Using your own driveway and a private lot you have written permission to use usually needs nothing. A stand on the curb or cars parked along a public street often needs a temporary permit, and some cities, Los Angeles and San Francisco among them, require valet operators to hold a city permit. A good provider knows the local rule and files it, so ask who handles it and whether the fee is in the quote.

Valet company or booking attendants directly

A full service valet company quotes the whole night: the crew, the lead, the key cabinet, the podium, insurance and the permit. You pay for that convenience in the hourly rate, and some companies add a booking or event fee on top. That is the right call for a large wedding or any event on a public street.

Booking directly means posting the job yourself and comparing providers, from small insured valet operators to established companies, on rate, crew size and the insurance answer. For a house party or a mid size event where the cars go to a lot next door, that route usually lands at the lower end of the ranges above, because you see several quotes side by side instead of calling the first company on the search page. What you should not do to save money is hand keys to an uninsured driver.

How to book event valet without agency markup

On GigList you post the valet job once and get a ranked shortlist of valet providers who cover your area and are free on your date. The page to book an event valet service has the gig builder at the top, the rate card and the screening questions already written, including the garage keepers insurance question. A useful post includes:

  1. The date, the address and the arrival window, plus the time the last guests usually leave.
  2. The guest count and your estimate of cars.
  3. Where the cars will go and how far that is from the door.
  4. How many attendants you expect, the dress code and whether you want tickets and a key stand.
  5. Your rate or budget, the minimum hours and the tip policy.

Your GigList plan covers every gig you post in the billing period, so the same account books the door, the bar and the floor for the night. You can hire event security for the entrance and the parking area, hire event staff for check in and coat check, and add bar cover from our page on bartenders for weddings. If the company party sits inside a department budget, business budgeting software keeps the valet, bar and staffing lines next to the rest of the event spend. There is no fee per hire and no markup on the attendants' rate. See GigList pricing for the flat plans.

Valet service cost questions

How much is valet for 100 guests?

For 100 guests, plan about 40 to 50 cars, two attendants and a lead for four to five hours. That usually costs $340 to $800 before tips. If the parking area is more than a few minutes away, add one attendant or a shuttle, which brings it closer to $450 to $1,050.

Is valet parking worth it for a wedding?

It usually is when the venue lot is more than a short walk from the ceremony, the guest list skews older, the road is narrow, or the dress code is formal. For a venue with a lot at the door, clear signs and a parking attendant may be enough, at a fraction of the price.

How far in advance should I book valet for an event?

Book four to eight weeks ahead for a Saturday wedding or a December party, and two to three weeks for a weekday company event. Peak dates fill early, and a provider needs time to visit the address, plan the parking area and file any permit.

Can I hire one valet attendant?

Most operators will not send fewer than two, because one person cannot greet arriving guests and run cars to the lot at the same time. For a very small dinner with ten cars and a driveway, a single parking attendant who directs guests, without taking keys, is the cheaper option.
