Listen to the best new releases this week from Frankie Rose, Samantha Urbani, Garbage, War On Drugs and The Weather Station

War On Drugs - Strangest Thing

War On Drugs recently announced forthcoming new album A Deeper Understanding, out via Secretly Canadian on 25/8. We were recently treated to lead single 'Holding On' which has been released alongside an amazing video. 'Strangest Thing' is yet another slow burning Americana classic in which leading man Adam Granduciel sounds more Dylan-esque than ever. The band are on tour in November playing a string of shows in London, Manchester and Glasgow.

Frankie Rose - Red Museum

Frankie Rose recently dropped first single 'Trouble' from forthcoming LP Cage Tropical.  We’ve been given a second taster with the dreamy 'Red Museum'. Rose said, “Red Museum’ is a love song. It is a portrait of the kind of fearful thoughts that can run through a person’s head upon the possibility of caring for another person.” The single comes with a video which has been directed by and co-stars L.A.-based musician artist Geneva Jacuzzi. Cage Tropical is out 8/11 via Slumberland Records/Grey Market.

Garbage - No Horses

Garbage has released a new song called 'No Horses.' It was also announced earlier in the month that they would be touring this summer with another group of rock royalty Blondie.  Shirley Manson had this to say about the song in a recent interview with Variety. “I was driving through the Scottish countryside last year and looking at these fields of horses and thinking, what will happen to them when we don’t need them as much as we once did?” she said. “When they’re no longer working beasts, what will happen to the horses? So it’s an imagining of the future where the authorities destroy anything that doesn’t make large amounts of money.” Garbage’s tour dates here.

The Weather Station - Thirty

The Weather Station – aka Toronto songwriter Tamara Lindeman has announced her fourth record and follow up to 2015’s critically acclaimed Loyalty. Self-titled album Thirty is due out later this year. In a recent press release, Lindeman said: “I wanted to make a rock and roll record but one that sounded how I wanted it to sound, which of course is nothing like rock and roll”. The Weather Station will play a European tour this October, with shows in London, Paris, Berlin, and more. Find out the full dates and ticket details.

Samantha Urbani - Hint and Implications

Bushwick resident Samantha Urbani recently shared “Go Deeper,” which is the first we have heard from Urbani since "1234" in 2015. The news that Urbani also plans to release her debut solo  EP Policies of Power on 18th August accompanied the track. EP opener “Hints And Implications” is an 80's power riff dance track. Here’s what Urbani had to say about the track in a press release: "at its core it's about the ontology of truth – whether interpersonal communication/”honesty” is even possible, considering the subjectivity of our individual reality-perception. But surface level it's really about that breaking point where you stop trying with someone when you can’t even get a motherfuckin text back". Great, we look forward to hearing the full EP next month.
