Band announce debut album, No.1, due out this year.
Michigan trio Major Murphy has released the title track to their upcoming LP release No.1, which is due 30th March via Winspear. The group, having already released a couple of well-received EP's and the recently plaintive "Mary", are busy putting the finishing touches to the LP.
There's a distinct 1970's AM radio feel to the music, lyrically, however, the songs are very much from 2018. Songwriter, Jacob Bullard, documents the uniquely millennial cache of societal anxiety and ego-crisis. Here's what Bullard, has to say about "No.1":
“No. 1 was originally inspired as an attempt to describe a world where Google Glass or such technology is profuse. In the end, it turned out to be a kind of ego crisis song. The lyrics demonstrate a desire to find one’s personal identity outside of anyone’s opinion or expectation of oneself, but habitually defaulting to insecurity and dependence on the opinion of others to bring themselves a sense of security and contentment.”
