Introducing | Look Vibrant

Montreal's noise pop quartet Stream debut LP 'The Up Here Place' and are set to play hometown show with US Girls in April.

After releasing two singles of undiluted noise pop (Plateau and Sweater) and one EP of shiny indie-pop (Only Oualms), Montreal's Look Vibrant have managed to combine the two elements equally for their debut LP The Up Here Place. Songwriting duo Matt Murphy and Justin Lazarus, wrote the LP over a two year period whilst both being university students - demoing in between classes and touring in between semesters. The duo are Toronto natives and met at the young age of 11 years old at a local theatre group, with a chemistry apparent immediately - they spent their teenage years in a variety of different musical outfits together.

The Up Here Place sounds like organised chaos musically, with its complicated songs structures and chord patterns - it has the unpredictable not knowing where it is going to go next vibe. Comparisons to early Animal Collective may come to mind. The LP title came from a conversation Matt had with a friend during a particularly rough time, it refers to "that illusory point of stability, where every moment of your day falls smoothly into place, and nothing feels arduous or hopeless,” Murphy explains. “Of course, it is sort of a mistake to assert this ‘place’ as an end-in-itself, as stability generally lapses to and fro, and to take these moments out of context is to miss the bigger picture.” The Up Here Place is out on April 6th, and is available to buy at Bandcamp.
