With just a handful of released singles under their belt, Hinds already earned early support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, NME, Guardian, Beats 1, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The FADER, Gorilla vs. Bear, and much much more. Now with their eagerly awaited debut album released, Hinds has embarked on a world tour selling out all the venues and have firmly established themselves as one of the most exciting emerging acts around, and show no sign of slowing down.   JENNY HVAL // ROYAL DICK BAR, EDINBURGH // £18.50 ADV // 20TH AUGUST Norwegian artist and writer Jenny Hval has developed her distinct take on intimate sound since the release of her debut album in 2006. For her last two solo albums, 2013’s Innocence Is Kinky and 2015’s Apocalypse, girl, Hval’s debut for Sacred Bones, she has received thoughtful and widespread international acclaim for her fascinating voice, singular delivery and markedly non-traditional arrangements which incorporate elements of poetry, prose writing, performance art, and film. The New York Times defines her writing as “taking a scalpel to the subjects of gender politics and sexuality.” Hval has eloquently brought to light issues of both male and female gaze, which for years had been swept under the rug and/or denied altogether.   GOSPELBEACH // PRINCE ALBERT, BRIGHTON // £7 ADV // 21ST AUGUST Californian dreamers GospelbeacH are fronted by Brent Rademaker, he of Beachwood Sparks and The Tyde fame:  the Sunshine State’s keepers of the psychedelic country faith. If you loved the former’s superb 2012 album, Tarnished Gold, you’re not going to have any problems with Another Summer of Love. Whether you call it power pop, folk rock or alt-country  (at times all of these terms apply) GospelbeacH are bursting with melody, with terrific harmonies to boot, including backing vocals contributions by Californian psychedelic country girl Miranda Lee Richards, who herself gave us one of the best albums of last year. We’re talking gorgeousness of Byrds and Big Star proportions, and that perfect balance of joy and melancholy.   HOLY FUCK // PATTERNS, BRIGHTON // £10.50 ADV // 23RD AUGUST Holy F**k took the world by surprise around 2005 because there was just nothing like them—a hardcore thrift-store found-object punk band with a relentless commitment to rhythm and a sense for atmosphere better matched to a close encounter of the third kind than a simple rock concert.
