Debut LP Beacon due out May 4th via Italians Do It Better.
Montreal based musician, Tess Roby, has shared a new single, 'Given Signs,' featuring on her upcoming album 'Beacon', which is out May 4th via Italians Do It Better. 'Given Signs' is the album opener and features glassy electronic instrumentation alongside Roby's vocal, which has unmistakable Sade tones to them. Roby's forthcoming debut Beacon, was written shortly after her father passed away and is a homage to him and the time they spent together in Lancashire, UK.
Beacon is named after The Beacon, a monolith erected in 1798 as a watchtower, which crowns Ashurst Hill in Dalton, Lancashire. Classically trained Tess has felt drawn to this place which stood out in her mind and is also part of her father's heritage. She explains in a press release, “Throughout my life I have felt the pull to return to it,” she says. “I’m beckoned by father’s roots and by the sullen landscape of fields leading to the coast.”
