Live Review: LCD Soundsystem @ Apollo, Manchester, 6th June

LCD Soundsystem play out their second act for Manchester fans with glacial tracks from last years LP, American Dream making a northern live debut.

Dance-punk group LCD Soundsystem should've played their last UK gig in 2010 at the Manchester Apollo after James Murphy announced that he'd be retiring the LCD Soundsystem name in 2011. However, after last years release of fourth studio LP American Dream, the outfit toured in the latter half of 2017 including two shows in Manchester in September for the Warehouse Project. For fans specifically awaiting to hear the big tracks from American Dream in a live setting, this tour is the first to showcase it after Murphy spent a few months working on the live rendition. Murphy takes to centre stage on what is already a humid evening telling the crowd that he'd spent the afternoon at Piccadilly Records, recommending that we should all visit the store because it's a beautiful thing. He's accompanied by a pink jumpsuit wearing Nancy Whang who at times hogs the crowd's visual attention, especially during their banging dance cover of Chic's 'I Want Your Love'. 'Oh Baby' which sounds like it should be on the 'Drive' soundtrack gets the crowd moving before the Murphy and team play some reworked versions of older tracks like 'I Can Change' to 'You Wanted A Hit' much to the crowds' delight. There's certainly no signs of the outfit slowing down as they play out their stellar set to an ecstatic and energetic crowd - the evening has descended into one big hot and sweaty room as a mega-extended version of 'How Do You Sleep?' closes the show.
