INHEAVEN: infectious and in their ascendence
INHEAVEN has been likened to early Wolf Alice, with their dreamy rock music taking inspiration from the Cure. Since forming in 2015 the band has quickly acquired a sizeable following.
Following the release of their debut album last September, INHEAVEN has embarked on a UK-wide tour. The
band comprising of Chloe Little (bass, vocals), James Taylor (guitar, vocals), Joe Lazarus (drums) and Jake Lucas (guitar), took to the stage at the Tunbridge Wells Forum - NME's best small venue in 2012. Support coming from local group Suncharmer and Brighton-based Thyla.
Opening with
Bitter Town, the group has an undeniably presence on stage. It is hard to take your eyes off Little, with soft vocals complementing Taylor, they bring to mind the Jesus and Mary Chain, and transporting the crowd back to the 1980s.
Prior to releasing their 2017 self-titled debut album, INHEAVEN released two EPs,
Regeneration and Baby’s Alright, which both contribute to the 14-song strong setlist.
The set doesn't let up and continues at pace with
World on Fire, Drift. The ridiculously catchy
Stupid Things, whipping the moshing crowd into an energetic frenzy on the tiny dance floor.
As the evening draws to a close, INHEAVEN play
Sweet Dreams Baby, from which themes of alienation resonate strongly with the largely teen audience in the Kentish venue.
Closing their set with
Wasted My Life on Rock n Roll, and the anthemic
Regeneration. INHEAVEN succeeds in producing songs that are impressive, without being over the top.
The four-piece will soon be heading out to North America on tour to support
Pale Waves, and if tonight is anything to go by, who knows how far they will go to next.
