Ducktails - Map to the Stars
Ducktails, aka Matt Mondanile, has released 'Map to the Stars', leading single from Ducktails' forthcoming sixth album Jersey Devil which is due out October 6th via Mondanile's own label New Images. Last summer it was announced that Matt Mondanile would be departing his band Real estate in order to focus on his solo project as Ducktails. After working away on his solo project for two years, this is the outcome.
Much of Jersey Devils was written in LA but to finish the album and organise its release Mondanile returned to his hometown of Ridgewood, NJ. "Everything felt right: the mini mall across the street, the stock brokers walking their dogs, and the sweet summer smell in the air," he said in a recent press release. John Anderson (Sky Ferreira, Girls), shared production and recording duties with Mondanile. We're definitely looking forward to hearing the full album.
EMA - Blood and Chalk
EMA is due to release her third album Outer Ring on August 25th via City Slang. Latest single Blood and Chalk follows on from the three other song's we've heard and is definitely one of the darker ones.
In a press release, EMA explained that “Blood and Chalk” originally was written as part of a soundtrack for 2015's Horror. “I wrote the lyrics very quickly, with the idea that it was about the experience of being a 12 year-old girl, kind of right on the cusp between childhood and starting to grow up.. When I played it for Jake he said he thought it was about a police shooting. I was kind of shocked, but it also makes complete sense from that point of view. Makes me wonder if my subconscious mind was working on a different level, creating a double meaning.” Take a listen, above.
Frankie Rose - Dyson Sphere
We've been keeping up with Frankie Rose since she announced the release of her forthcoming album Cage Tropical via Slumberland on 11th August. We've thoroughly enjoyed her releases so far with “Trouble” and “Red Museum” along with the video’s which have been accompanying the music. Latest single 'Dyson Sphere' has been released alongside an enigmatic video directed by Daniel Patrick Carbone which see's Frankie performing through a blue haze with her band.
