New music from Widowspeak, Sheer Mag, EMA and Arcade Fire
It's the first week of July, the weather down here in the south-east is throwing itself from heatwave to thunderstorm. Oh yeah - and our government is still f***ed. Here are our 5 best song picks to keep you afloat.
Widowspeak - Dog
Widowspeak have this week announced a new album, Expect the Best, and shared a video for its first single, the dreamy and shoegazy 'Dog'. The bands second album is due to be released via Captured Tacks on 25th August. A press release about the sound on their latest offering states "Sonically, they exist somewhere in the overlap between somber indie rock, dream pop, slow-core, and their own invented genre, 'cowboy grunge.'" If this first taster is anything to go by then we are so looking forward to hearing more from the new LP.
Yassassin - Cherry Pie
Yassassin have announced the release of forthcoming EP 'Vitamin Y' and latest single 'Cherry Pie' out on Bablelogue. After spending a year on the road honing their live show. Here is what Yassassin have to say about their latest track "'Cherry Pie' definitely has a dual attitude," Yassassin explain. "It has always sounded dark and sleazy; it’s a confession to an obsession that in the end spirals into madness. The song embodies the lust and infatuation when you’ve just met someone but you have no idea what's going on in each others heads at all. It’s exciting, but overwhelming and suddenly, passion can turn into irrationality. Everyone can relate to that feeling - being blinded by desire."
Sheer Mag - Suffer Me
Philadephpia punks Sheer Mag shared new video for single 'Suffer Me' this week from forthcoming album Need Your Love out July 14 via Wilsuns RC. 'Suffer Me' melds together 1970s vibe guitar riffs with singer Tina Halladay’s commanding voice with an analog production from Hart Seely.
Arcade Fire - Signs of Life
With new record on the way Arcade Fire are slow dripping singles, this weeks disco infused 'Signs of Life' is sure to get your weekend off to a good start.
EMA - Down and Out
EMA aka - Erika M. Anderson has announced a new album, Exile in the Outer Ring out via City Slang, 25th August. Down and Out is the third single to drop from the album.
